Blackjack: strategies for winning

Basic Blackjack Strategy

Using a basic strategy can reduce the house edge from about 10%-15% to less than 1%. By following this strategy, players can make decisions based on logical and proven principles instead of luck or instinct. In other words, the basic blackjack strategy is a table that determines the correct decisions to be made in all possible game scenarios. This table shows the rules for when to draw, when to fold, when to double down, and when to fold. These solutions are based on mathematics, particularly statistics and probability, and have been carefully studied by experts.

Blackjack table

Blackjack strategy tables are important tools for players who want to increase their chances of winning. These tables determine the optimal decisions to be made in every possible situation that may arise during the game, based on mathematical and statistical analyses. The special feature of these tables is that they provide specific instructions for the game. Let’s examine them in more detail.

The first strategy table refers to “hard hands”, i.e. when our hand does not contain an ace. The orders in the table are:

  • S (Stand): we stop when our hand value is 17 or higher, or when we have 12-16 and the dealer has 2-6.
  • H (Hit): we draw a card when our hand value is 8 or less, or when we have 12-16 and the dealer has 7 or higher.
  • D (Double): we double the bet when the value of our cards is 10 or 11 and the dealer has 2-9.

By following these instructions, players can make optimal decisions based on mathematical models and statistical analysis, thus increasing their chances of winning and reducing the casino’s advantage.

The second strategy table applies when we have a “soft hand”, i.e. when our hand includes an ace. The orders in the table are:

  • S (Stand): We stop when the value of our cards is Ace-8 (19) or higher.
  • H (Hit): We draw when the value of our cards is Ace-2 to Ace-7 and the dealer has 9, 10 or Ace.
  • D (Double): We double the bet when the value of our cards is Ace-2 to Ace-7 and the dealer has 4, 5 or 6. If doubling is not allowed, then we draw a card.
  • Ds (Double/Stand): We double the bet if allowed, otherwise we stop when the value of our cards is Ace-6 and the dealer has 3-6.

By following these strategies, players can optimise their decisions and increase their chances of success based on statistical analysis and mathematical models.

The last strategy table is for cases where we have a pair of cards. The commands for these cases are as follows:

  • Y (Split):We split the pair when we have two aces or two eights, regardless of the dealer’s cards.
  • N (Do not split): We never split the pair of thirteen (two cards of value 10).
  • Y/N (Split only if): We only divorce under certain circumstances. For example, we split pairs of 2, 3 or 7 if the dealer has cards of 2-7. We split a pair 6 if the dealer has cards of value 2-6. Split pair 9 if the dealer has 2-6 or 8-9.

By following these guidelines, players can make the best decisions when faced with pairs of cards, increasing their chances of winning and reducing the casino’s advantage. These strategies are based on detailed statistical analysis and mathematical models, making them reliable and effective.
